(As of March 2007)
JCB's New Services Created through the Growing JCB Merchant Network
| In 1981, after having established a robust merchant network in Japan, JCB began its international business as the first non-American credit card brand. Since that year, JCB has been promoting the expansion and improvement of a network that covers diverse commercial areas with secure infrastructures. As of September 2007, 190 countries and territories, including 13.53 million merchants, were covered by JCB's merchant network. JCB development of new payment technologies and systems has made it possible to quickly and easily pay with JCB at supermarkets, convenience stores, and even highway tollgates. Payment by JCB is also accepted for public utilities, transportation and medical service ahead of the competirion. Outside of Japan, the JCB merchant network is growing at a rapid rate, as a result of alliances including licensing contracts with more than two hundred major financial institutions. By reinforcing infrastructures including an overseas system network, JCB has developed a secure merchant network in order to provide cardmembers with reliable services. In addition, in view of security improvement, JCB is vigorously taking on the challenge of developing new technologies, including development of an IC chip-embedded card solution. |
